Luna, who came to us in 2019, presumably had a car accident. She was confused and likely suffered a big hit to her head, resulting in a concussion and a traumatic left eye injury.

She needed acute emergency care. Body temperature stabilization, infusion therapy, analgesia, other medication, roborative treatment, and - initially - conservative eye care were performed.

In a few days, her condition improved significantly. However, due to the eye trauma she suffered, we had to seek help from a small animal ophthalmology specialist - Dr. Ildikó Fenyves - at the Klapka Veterinary Care Center. The medical examination result showed the luxation of the left eye lens, which can be treated by removing either the eyeball or the lens. Still, according to our knowledge, no one has ever performed this surgical action on an owl in Hungary (as we later learned, it is very rarely done in other countries as well).

The veterinary team collectively decided to remove the lens because a bird of prey cannot return to nature with only one eye.

Hosszú ideig tartó utókezelést követően (szemcseppek 2 óránkénti használata), szisztémás gyógyszeres kezelés a kontroll vizsgálatok és repatriálásra való felkészítés alapján (zsákmány vadászata) , minden jel arra mutatott, hogy Luna műtétje sikeres volt, szabadon folytathatja életét.

Maga a műtét, annak előkészítése a megfelelő altatás kivitelezése komoly szakmai összefogást és tervezést igényelt. Az altatást Szabina doktornő biztosította a majdhogynem 2 órás beavatkozás alatt, mely nagyon nagy kihívás egy vad madár esetében. A műtétet dr. Fenyves Ildikó végezte csapatával, akiknek nem tudunk elég hálásak lenni az elvállalt és tökéletesen elvégzett operációért.
